Love Dogs ... and Justice For All?
By Chef David
If so... there is an atrocity going on in Denver that you may want to be aware of.
You are a responsible dog owner, you get your four legged companion only the best food, exercise several times a week, they get only THE Best in treats, and you just love them like no other.
Your dog happens to be of the Pit Bull breed(s)... so Denver Municipal Animal Shelter (DMAS) knocks on your door, confiscates your family dog, and shoves a needle in its arm and puts it to death. No crime, no mauling, not even a single bark... but simply because it's a Pit Bull. Seems Fair, huh? Hardly.
Since 2005, DMAS has euthanized close to 2000 family dogs... based on breed alone and not the actions of the dog or you as the owner. Granted... the drug dealers and gang bangers who believe it's a brilliant idea to abuse these dogs to the point of becoming violent and ready for organized fighting produce some of the most dangerous dogs around. Even most of those "can" be rehabilitated... as we all witnessed with many of the Michael Vick Pit Bulls. Some, however, are so far gone... the best course of action is to be put down.
But what about YOUR dog? The one that sleeps with you? The one who grew up with your children? The one who works as a therapy dog visiting Cancer and Alzheimer's patients? Do they deserve to be stereotyped or discriminated against?
Dogs have no voice nor can they register to Vote... but YOU CAN. It is our responsibility to demand the Denver Mayor, City Council, and Director of Animal Control reform their Pit Bull Ban into a dangerous dog law that makes sense... or find themselves unemployed come next election.
Without action... your breed of dog could be the next to be chosen by the drug dealers and gang bangers to abuse for fighting and next on the DMAS hit list.
